Welcome to the homepage of the Amdani, Fachynlleth! festival

Translated to Let’s Go, Machynlleth! in English, our festivals were born to inspire, inform and entertain audiences across the topic of travel. It’s such a vast topic of conversation and we’re so excited to hear from each and every speaker about their experiences, travel stories and their inspirations for writing.

The first ever Amdani, Fachynlleth! festival took place in November 2021 in honour of the late travel writer and author Jan Morris. You can hear all of the speakers from that event here.

The festival itself is the brainchild of Wynnstay Hotel owners Charles Dark and Sheila Simpson. The market town of Machynlleth has hosted some of Wales’ most-loved events including classical music festival Gwyl Machynlleth in the Tabernacle, the Folk Festival and the Comedy Festival over the years. Following the success of such festivals, the team saw a gap in the market for one focusing on travel and got to work to pull the first one together.

Assisted by Twm Morys, Jan Morris’ son, the event was attended by some of the UK’s most acclaimed travel writers and audiences got to hear from them, interact with him, and share stories with them in the hotel bar afterwards. Even with storm Arwen to contend with, it was a fantastic event. Take a look at the videos and the images from the inaugural event here.
